Cardican
From 7th Sea Wiki
Description
A Sailor's City in the district of Camlann, Cardican has always been very ship and sea-travel orriented. Recently the Explorer's Society has taken a special interest in the port, as it's position is good for launching expeditions into the uncharted west. A large Chapterhouse exists here for the Guild.
Cardican, a port city on the south-western part of Avalon in the county of Camlann, is a busy port with loud boisterous people. The Glamour here is prolific and powerful. They use their magic with an eerie ease and the regular people take great pride in their nobility's prowess. The shipyards here are the third largest in the nation and many captains are often found hiring at the docks. There are many inns, taverns and Jenny's Guilds designed to relieve weary sailors of their hard-earned shares.
Cardican is a good-sized city and easily divided into six districts - the docks to the west; the warehouses, just east and north of the docks; the Poor Quarter to the south and east of the docks; the Market which is directly in the center of town; the middle-class shops and houses to the far east; and the wealthier neighborhoods to the north. The wealthier neighborhoods are walled off from the rest of the city, with two gates to pass through. On this day, the gates are not watched as closely as normal.
The Explorer's Society's Chapter house is located in this walled neighborhood, a largish building surrounded by several smaller ones. On the eastern edge of the Market district is the Avalon Church of the Prophets. Once a Vatacine church, it shows the all architectural markings of its Castillian-inspired construction. Perhaps it is just a trick of the light, but despite the vast amounts of sunlight, the Church itself seems to stand constantly in shadow.
Merchants abound throughout the city, not just in the Market district, which has several large open squares for the set-up of temporary booths. There are likewise several greens through the Market district where artisans are practicing their skills for people to watch (and buy!) in hopes of attracting new patrons. Entertainers stand in the center of circles of watchers, juggling or dancing or playing instruments, performing their arts for thrown coins.
Government
Duke Mark Garloise and his wife Rhiannon, of Camlann, rule over this port city and other towns in their district.
