The Brotherhood of the Coast
The Brotherhood of the Coast is a
band of pirates that preys on ships near Montaigne and Vodacce (and to
a lesser extent, Avalon). The leader of the group is a Castillian
named Allende, and his ship is the Hanged Man. His known
tactics are fairly straightforward: approach a merchant ship, fly his
colors, and expect surrender. Most captains prefer to simply lose
their cargo than their lives in a battle with the Pirate King.
The Corsairs
Led by a powerful Crescent
called Kheired-Din, this band has been operating for twenty years, and
have kidnapped hundreds of Théans who have never been heard from
again. His flagship, the Strange Skies, has some sort of device
bolted to its deck that spits "living fire" at his enemies.
He also easily avoids the Church garrisons that guard the Vodacce Keys.
It seems likely that he has Syrenth knowledge that has been lost to the
rest of the world.
The Crimson Roger
If there is a name that strikes fear
into the hearts of most Théans, it must be "Reis",
the captain of the Crimson Roger. He strikes at shipping all
up and down the western and southern coasts. When he attacks a ship,
he leaves no survivors to tell the tale.
The Sea Dogs
The Sea Dogs have raided the
Castillian coast, captured treasure fleets bringing back Syrenth
artifacts, and otherwise harassed the Castillian fleet for years, under
the command of Jeremiah Berek, and his flagship, the Black Dawn.
He has a Letter of Marque from Queen Elaine, and is the foremost rogue
in her mercenary navy.
The Vestenmannavnjar Raiders
A terror to Vendel seafarers, these
raiders are captained by a woman -- Yngvild Olafsdottir -- rumored to
be a seven foot tall warrior woman who commands the very fury of the
storms to hammer Vendel ships into flotsam before capturing them.
